CONSTRUCTION THROUGH THREE CENTURIESThe origins of McGregor Construction (Highlands) Ltd were established in Inverness over 125 years ago (1877) and in Lochaber some 37 years ago with the present company being formed in 1977. The present company formed as John G McGregor (Contractors) Ltd changed its name to McGregor Construction ( Highlands ) Ltd in 1991. This company was a merger of two former companies. Watson & McGregor, operating from Fort William (1968 onwards) and James Campbell Construction, operating from Inverness (1877 onwards). James Campbell Construction was originally stonemason contractors with the joinery side of the business instigated thro the purchase of an Inverness company Fraser & MacDonald during the late 1940s. Construction thro three centuries has seen the origins and the present company being responsible for much of the Landmark buildings (past and present) of the city of Inverness and Town of Fort William and surrounding areas. Lately, the present company has been responsible for building, Inverness Telford street retail park, Inverness Caledonian Thistle football stadium , Inverness Crematorium, Raigmore Accident & Emergency unit, Clan Donald Museum Skye, Inverness College Learning Resource Centre, Invergordon Port Authority headquarters, Sheltered Housing complexes in various locations throughout Scotland, Redevelopment Kinlochleven carbon bunkers, Inverness MFI & Halfords retail units, Inverness Eden Court theatre auditorium refurbishment, Office developments Forres, Dingwall, Campbeltown, Sabhal Mor Ostaig Gaelic college Skye and various works at the pulp mill in Ft William. The origins of the company were responsible for building Stone built houses from the late 1800s in Glenurquhart road are valued as good examples of typical Scottish stone house building construction. In stone, one side of the Queensgate area of the town , the East Church and extension to the Town House, original imposing stone built Aviemore Hotel, lodges for country estates including Moy Hall as well as many houses at various locations in Inverness and surrounding areas . In brick, local authority housing schemes Inverness and Fort William , In Inverness the telephone exchange, public baths and swimming pool, Craig phadrig and Royal Northern Infirmary Nurses Homes.
